The Polestar Pilates Comprehensive course is the most popular Polestar Pilates program and qualifies you to work as a fully accredited and highly respected Pilates Teacher anywhere in the world. Polestar is recognized in more than 40 countries and backed by the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). Polestar graduates are proficient in the Pilates principles, movements, cueing and practice, across the entire Pilates repertoire.

Each student receives comprehensive didactic and theoretical review and practical training using Polestar’s unique clinical reasoning approach. The Polestar curriculum is based on a scientific foundation of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and motor control, and integrates scientific research findings in the areas of orthopedics, sports medicine and movement science. Once qualified, you will be equipped to teach a wide range of clients from beginners to advanced, including rehabilitation and high-performance athletes.

The series consists of six, two-day modules (weekends, 9am – 6pm) that allow you to evaluate the practical applications of Pilates exercises, develop assessment techniques, understand movement sequences, and modify exercises and programs for individuals.

Prerequisites

  • You’re a qualified rehabilitation practitioner, Pilates mat teacher or fitness/movement professional.
  • A basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • 25 hours of personal Pilates experience.
  • Polestar Principles Course completed.

ABOUT
Experience and apply the theories of movement that lay the foundation for Polestar Pilates in this prerequisite for all other Polestar courses. Using evidence-based research, you will discover the passage ways for movement throughout the body and develop the tools to provide either assistance for or challenge your clients in helping them achieve their goals.

Polestar Principles will bring to life your ability to assess, problem-solve, design and modify exercise programs to meet specific needs and abilities.

Certification

To graduate, you need to demonstrate your competence as a Polestar Pilates Instructor. This is a fundamental part of the training where you complete a log book, 40 hours of observation, 100 hours of self-mastery and 100 hours of apprentice teaching. The logbook is controlled by a mentor or instructor.

When you decide to take your exam and get certified is up to you, although we recommend that you sit your exam within two years of completing the course.

Educators

Shelly Power

Shelly Power is the co-founder of Polestar Pilates Center Miami, a Pilates conditioning, rehabilitation and physical therapy studio in Miami, Florida. Shelly is a Polestar Principal Educator, has taught for Polestar Education since its inception in 1992 and currently coordinates the Curriculum Committee. In Dec 2012, Shelly was elected to the PMA Board of Directors.

Shelly is certified in GYROTONIC®, having trained with Angela Crowley and has completed the first year of Franklin-Method® training with Eric Franklin. She has been a member of International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS), is a member of the Pilates Method Alliance and is a PMA Certified Pilates Teacher.

Shelly danced professionally for 12 years with the Sacramento-based modern dance company Dale Scholl Dance/Art. She received her BS degree in Dance from California State University, Sacramento, where she served on the faculty from 1992-1998. She studied Pilates and worked as a physical therapy aide with Polestar President Brent Anderson at his clinic, Anderson Physical Therapy, in their native Sacramento for 7 years, and later moved with Polestar to Miami in 1998.

Shelly teaches nationally and internationally for Polestar Pilates Education. Shelly also administers exams, conducts Pilates workshops and Polestar Mentor and Educator trainings worldwide and brings a unique and fresh approach to the work of Joseph Pilates.

Leila Kester

Leila Kester is the Polestar representative in The Netherlands, and the Educator for the Comprehensive Program. She loves teaching future Pilates teachers through the Polestar Education, because the curriculum is so well constructed, thorough and makes a great start for any aspiring Pilates teacher. Leila: “Exploring with the students all the aspects of teaching, the wide diversity of the Pilates Method, and the details of each exercise is a great challenge. To share my experience with the students and to encourage them to find their own voices as teachers is always a very special experience”.

Leila has her own Pilates studio in the centre of Amsterdam. For the past twenty years she has also been teaching Pilates to the dancers from Het Nationale Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater, and dance students from the Theaterschool, becoming highly specialized in this field. Her main goal is to encourage these professionals to find their strength and maximize their physical potential in this highly competitive profession. Leila has also been involved with teaching athletes from the National Rowing Teams from The Netherlands and Austria.

Andreas Wellhoefer

Andreas Wellhoefer is an Osteopath, Physiotherapist and POLESTAR Pilates Instructor for Rehabilitation.

Andreas has been working as a Physiotherapist and Pilates coach in Springs in Cologne since 2008. His focus is on the application and development of physiotherapeutic and osteopathic approaches with the Polestar rehabilitation concept. As an instructor, he works together with physiotherapy schools and associations. He also supervises scientific work on Pilates and creates own researches.
